As a Visual & Performing Arts A+ Magnet School, we uphold the 5 Pillars of National Magnet Schools and the 8 Essentials of North Carolina A+ Schools. A big part of who we are as an A+ Magnet School is our school climate and culture of Arts Integration. This means we include academic subjects into the Arts, and we include the arts into academic subjects. We teach math, reading, science, and social studies with visuals, creative movement, sound, and more.
In order to promote further Arts Integration and provide classroom teachers with tools and resources for Arts Integration, we received some Magnet funding and a Donors Choose Grant to create "Integration Kits." We filled plastic boxes/containers with paint, brushes, hand instruments, and more to give classroom teachers a starting point for implementing more authentic and deliberate arts integration into their lessons.
