"The Nutcracker Suite"

"Welcome, it's Christmas time, the party's just beginning..."

On Tuesday, December 18, the Arts Team, all 1st and 2nd grade students along with 4th & 5th Grade Honors Dancers presented "The Nutcracker Suite"with music by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky and new lyrics by Sally K. Albrecht.

It was a wonderfully festive day with the official dress rehearsal taking place at 1:00pm and the presentation for parents at 6:30pm.  For the dress rehearsal, special guests included Superintendent Dr. Emory, Assistant Superintendent Rusty Hall, and School Board Member Lori Goins Clark along with the entire student body.

"Can't you see those lovely sugar plums, dancing here, dancing there, dancing everywhere."

The show was co-directed by Mrs. Amanda Nelson, dance teacher and team chairperson and Mr. Rick Sigler, band teacher.  Orchestra Teacher, Lisa Morris served as the stage manager, and Art Teacher & A+ Magnet Coordinator, Amanda Gordon, served as the set designer.  Students showcased all they have been working on since late September, early October through singing and dancing.

Fifth grade Art & Dance Honors student, Zaree Fulwood, told the story as the official storyteller/narrator.

Students enjoyed playing the many characters, using props, and performing some of the 'comical' moments during the show like when Clara defeated the Mouse King with a slipper.

"The Nutcracker Suite" was a wonderful culmination of Art, Music and Dance and kicked off the Holiday season for students and teachers.

Arts Night 2018

On Thursday, November 29, we held our annual Arts Night, a hands-on Open House for the Arts classes.  The purpose of Arts Night was to give students, parents, community members and potential students the opportunity to see firsthand what it means to be an Arts Magnet School and experience a day-in-the-life of an A+ Magnet Student and an A+ Magnet Teacher.

Parents and students started in the lobby having fun with the photo booth and then floated between Art, Band/Music, Dance and Orchestra trying their hand at instruments, creative movement activities, drawing, and more.

Thanks Arts Team for hosting this event: Amanda Gordon, Art Teacher and A+ Magnet Coordinator;  Amanda Nelson, Dance Teacher and Team Chairperson; Rick Sigler, Band/Music Instructor, and Lisa Morris, Orchestra Teacher.

Thank  you to all parents, students and teachers who attended.
