Mrs. Megan True, Virtual Pre-Kindergarten Teacher, and teacher's assistant, Ms. Chris Thatcher, helped students celebrate autumn as well as created an authentic learning opportunity through their resent traveling "Pumpkin Patch."
Mrs. True shared, "We had a blast at the traveling pumpkin patch!"
To prepare for the event, Mrs. True and Ms. Thatcher gave parents the opportunity to sign up or decline the traveling pumpkin patch visit. They set up and decorated the back of an SUV and purchased various sized pumpkins in order to offer students a choice.
"Some chose the very biggest, while one chose the very smallest one!" Mrs. True explained.
"They also were given a brand new backpack full of school supplies donated from classroom supporters. Students were super excited about seeing the pumpkin patch. One parent asked to take a picture. She had been telling her friends about it and they couldn't imagine what a traveling pumpkin patch would look like. Parents were extremely grateful and excited for the visit. Kids were surprised we were actually real people and not just in computers."
"In brick and mortar, we would have held the event outside, and students would have picked their pumpkin during school. However, this was much more personal and involved the whole family."
