On October 18th, our A+ Magnet Coordinator, Amanda Gordon, traveled to Raleigh for the annual Fall A+ Leadership Meeting. This meeting is held at the McKimmon Center on the campus of North Carolina State University. The Leadership Meeting is a time of networking with teachers, coordinators, administrators and general A+ Supporters from the more than 60 A+ Schools across North Carolina. Coordinators discuss plans for the school year, next steps as they uphold the 8 Essentials of A+ Schools and personally assess how their individual schools rank in fully implementing the Essentials. During the leadership meeting, our A+ Coordinator was able to hear a presentation from Arts North Carolina and the North Carolina Museum of Art.
During the Fall Leadership Meeting, North Carolina A+ Schools also hold a refresher training for teachers. This October, second grade teacher, Mrs. Stephanie Rice, attended representing our K-2 teachers, and Dr. Denise Huffman, fourth grade teacher, attended representing our 3-5 teachers. In this refresher, teachers learning techniques to utilize in the classroom that reflect the essential of A+ schools, particularly ways to integrate and infuse the arts and create an environment where students are actively engaged in their learning.
