Drama Residency

Diggs-Latham Elementary A+ Magnet School for Arts Integration and Performance recently had the privilege of participating in a Drama Residency for our second grade students.  Drama students from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts created and carried out integrative lessons in 6 sessions in collaboration with the Arts Team.  Sessions were workshops on Poetry Theatre, integrating drama and English Language Arts: character, setting, problem, and resolution.  To kickoff the residency, the UNCSA performed "The Lost Boys."  On the last day of the residency, each second grade class took the stage for an “informance” performance to share their poems through creative movement, gestures and expression to show other classes what they had learned.  The UNCSA Drama Students also performed a poem for the second graders.  The residency was made possible through the UNCSA ArtistCorp program by a Wells Fargo Arts-Education grant from the Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County.
